A community-based art project created by local artists and volunteers in response to the paintings and sculptures produced by teenagers who were held in a Tornillo, Texas, detention center is part of "Hope & Freedom: A Visual Homage to the Human Spirit." The new exhibit will be in the Tom Lea Gallery of The University of Texas at El Paso's Centennial Museum. Artist and UTEP graduate Valente Francisco "Pancho" Saenz, Ph.D., and a group of volunteers from across the country painted segments of what would become a 4-foot by 12-foot mural. The exhibit will include an explanation of the painting and personal reflections from community members who have seen the Tornillo artworks. This display will be up through Aug. 3, 2019.
