A Reading and Conversation with Joy Harjo, Poet Laureate of the US

The Bilingual Department of Creative Writing at UTEP is proud to present a reading and conversation with Joy Harjo, second-term Poet Laureate of the United States. Join us in this National Poetry Month Celebration Friday April 16th at 6 PM (MT)

 

The first native American to represent US poetry, Harjo is the author of nine books of poetry, including  An American Sunrise.  She has been awarded the Academy of American Poets Wallace Stevens Award, two NEA fellowships, and a Guggenheim Fellowship.

 

The evening will begin with a translation into Spanish of one of her poems, by Dr. Paula Cucurella. Then there will be a reading, and afterward a short conversation with Words on a Wire.

El Departamento Bilingüe de Escritura Creativa de UTEP se enorgullece de presentar una lectura y una conversación con Joy Harjo, poetisa laureada de Estados Unidos. Únase a nosotros en esta celebración del Mes Nacional de la Poesía el viernes 16 de abril a las 6 PM (MT)

I LOVED her presentation!!! it was very inspiring! However, I would like that you give access to the audience to ask questions and/or write comments, as this is how most of the events operate at UTEP. It would make the events more interactive and rewarding for the poets and the audience.
